IN-VITRO NEUROSCIENCE STUDIES
Our in-vitro neuroscience studies are focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms involving the role of estradiol in mesencephalic dopaminergic neuron function. We use an embryonic cell line model to study specific proteins that might be associated with mesencephalic dopaminergic neuron regulation. Using our in-vitro approach we hope to contribute to unfolding the intricacies of sexual dimorphisms involved in diseases caused by disrupted dopaminergic transmission.
CELL CULTURE
By: Natalia Rivera-Sánchez
Cell culturing is the technique that allows us to grow and proliferate cells for our in-vitro projects. In Dr. De Jesús Lab., we grow the N27a cell line to study the possible molecular mechanisms of estradiol effects in mesencephalic dopaminergic neurons.
IMMUNOCYTOCHEMISTRY
By: Krystal Santiago-Colón
Immunocytochemistry is a molecular technique used to detect the expression of proteins of interest in cells. At the De Jesús Lab, we use it to localize specific proteins on cells in addition to measuring protein expression with western blot.
